Amfilochia Tragedy: Man Murders His Goddaughter, Then Commits Suicide

The small community of Amfilochia is in shock following the murder-suicide involving a 54-year-old man who killed his goddaughter, a 51-year-old mother of three, before turning the hunting rifle on himself. The tragic incident unfolded in the village of Perdikaki, nestled in the Valtos mountains of Aetoloakarnania. Immediately after committing the crime, the perpetrator ended his own life. Speaking to sinidisi.gr, Pano Kapoulas, the president of the Perdikaki community, recounted the events leading up to the tragedy. On Tuesday afternoon (June 24, 2025), both the perpetrator and the victim were seen at the local supermarket from different directions. The woman was accompanied by a friend, and around 2 PM, they returned to the settlement of Pigadia in their separate cars. The perpetrator reportedly went straight to the victim’s house upon returning. As the friend entered her home with groceries, she heard a gunshot. Initially unsure of what had happened, she heard a second shot moments later. Given the proximity of the houses, she rushed anxiously to her friend’s home, only to discover a horrific scene: the lifeless body of her friend bathed in blood, with the perpetrator also dead beside her. The crime was committed using a single-shot hunting weapon. Community President Kapoulas emphasized that the perpetrator’s behavior had notably changed over the past two years: ‘He exuded hatred and coldness towards everyone. While he never openly threatened anyone, his demeanor was certainly altered,’ he stated, adding, ‘I don’t know what drove him to such an atrocious act.’
