The small community of Amfilochia is in shock following the murder-suicide involving a 54-year-old man who killed his 51-year-old goddaughter, mother of three, before turning the hunting rifle on himself. The tragic incident occurred in the mountainous village of Valtos in Aetolia-Acarnania. According to reports, the perpetrator ended his own life immediately after committing the crime. Speaking with sinidisi.gr, the president of the Perdikaki community, Panos Kapoulas, recounted the events leading up to the tragedy. On Tuesday afternoon (June 24, 2025), both the suspect and the victim crossed paths at a local supermarket in Perdikaki. Afterward, they returned separately to the settlement of Pigadia around 2 p.m. The suspect reportedly went directly to the victim’s home. As the victim’s friend entered her house with groceries, she heard a gunshot but initially couldn’t comprehend what had happened. Moments later, another shot rang out. Realizing something was wrong, she rushed to her friend’s nearby residence only to discover the horrifying scene: the lifeless body of the woman bathed in blood and the deceased suspect beside her. The crime was committed using a single-shot hunting weapon. Community President Kapoulas noted that over the past two years, the suspect’s behavior had noticeably changed. “He radiated hatred and coldness toward everyone,” he remarked. Although there were no explicit threats made, his demeanor was unmistakably altered. What drove him to such an atrocious act remains unclear.
