A public relations ‘war’ between the police and the prosecution unfolded following the killing of a 95-year-old man by his 67-year-old son in Amfiklia. On Thursday evening, May 8, 2025, after reports from sources within the Aetolia-Acarnania Prosecution Office, the Hellenic Police issued a response statement. It was revealed that prior to the murder, a complaint had been filed regarding the elder’s beating by the perpetrator. However, according to the police, all procedures were followed during the investigation of the complaint, and the gathered evidence was promptly submitted to the competent prosecuting authority within 24 hours. The police emphasized that they lacked legal grounds to arrest or restrict the alleged perpetrator because the statute of limitations for an immediate offense had expired under the Penal Code. Additionally, the pre-trial material was forwarded to the prosecutorial office, but no detention order was issued. In every case, police authorities act in accordance with the content of each prosecutorial directive when not conducting self-initiated preliminary investigations or dealing with immediate criminal acts. According to available data, the 67-year-old repeatedly struck his father on the head with a club and another sharp object. The patricide, who claims he killed his father because he wouldn’t let him sleep, is due to defend himself in court on Monday, May 12.
