At Alpha Bank’s annual General Meeting of Shareholders, Chairman of the Board Dimitris Tsitsiragos and Group CEO Vassilis Psaltis delivered detailed addresses on Greece’s economic trajectory, challenges facing the banking sector, and the bank’s strategic priorities for the coming period.
A New Development Model for Greece
Tsitsiragos emphasized that Greece now has a unique opportunity to leverage the hard-won credibility it has regained—and transform it into a new, sustainable development model. Success, he said, hinges on balancing stability with reform, investment with innovation, and technology with human capital.
The central challenge, he noted, is shifting from growth fueled by external resources to one rooted in productivity, innovation, and international competitiveness—while simultaneously strengthening social cohesion, supporting vulnerable communities, and addressing demographic decline. Only growth that reaches everyone, he stressed, qualifies as genuine progress—a principle that underpins Alpha Bank’s strategic choices.
Commitment to Social Impact
Tsitsiragos highlighted Alpha Bank’s participation—alongside other systemic banks—in the nationwide Marietta Giannakou programme to upgrade public schools. To date, nearly 700 schools have been renovated or are undergoing comprehensive modernisation, improving learning, sports, and living conditions for over 150,000 students. The initiative will continue over the next two years.
He also referenced the long-running Together, for Health programme—now in its 13th consecutive year—which has supported 138 healthcare facilities and enhanced access to medical services for more than one million citizens across 114 regions nationwide.
Under the Culture for All initiative, the bank works to ensure cultural participation is not a privilege reserved for a few—extending opportunities to people with disabilities and other vulnerable groups.
Strategic Partnership with UniCredit
Tsitsiragos underscored the deepening collaboration between Alpha Bank and UniCredit. Greek exporters and businesses expanding across Europe now benefit from dual support: a domestic bank with deep local insight, and a pan-European institution present in 13 countries. This, he said, is more than financing—it’s a tangible competitive advantage.
Alpha Bank continues to actively support the real economy, maintaining a strong presence in strategic sectors such as shipping and entrepreneurship.
