Investigations by law enforcement continue regarding the case where a baby was found in a trash bin on May 14th in Alimos. Just before, the 43-year-old grandmother had reported that the infant was abducted by a man at a supermarket in central Athens. The grandmother of the six-month-old baby located in Alimos is now facing misdemeanor charges for endangering a minor. She has been referred to the Single-Member Misdemeanor Court. Authorities are analyzing security camera footage from the store on Aeolou Street and neighboring shops, hoping to identify and map the route taken by the man who took the child. An eyewitness who was present in the supermarket at the same time as the grandmother described suspicious movements by the woman. “I went upstairs with this lady, thinking she was going shopping. I started suspecting her because she kept moving around and suddenly became agitated on the phone; she didn’t buy anything,” said the witness. Continuing, they added: “By the time I went downstairs, she followed behind me shouting ‘the baby, the baby, someone stole my baby’ and headed towards Omonia. I didn’t see any man with her or a car. She claimed she handed the baby to a man to watch it, but he disappeared while she remained with the stroller.”
