The internet round took yesterday Friday (3,1205) the visit of her foreign minister, Annalena Burbok and her French counterpart, Jean Noel Baro in , as Syria’s powerful man Ahmed al Sarah, as is the real name of al Jolani, did not extend his hand to greet Annalena Berbok by handshake. Annalena Burbok and Jean-Noel Barreau were the first European foreign ministers to go to Syria after the Assad regime collapsed. In fact, German sources stated that at the end of the meeting Al Jolani shook hands with Annana Burbok of Germany. CORVERSE Despite extensive reactions, Annanna Bourbok became the first female western politician from whom she was not asked to cover her head. “When I arrived in Syria, it was already clear to me that there would be no usual handshakes, but it was equally clear that both I and the French Foreign Minister do not share that view,” Burbok told reporters in Damascus. Already at her reception at the airport, the two men of etiquette did not give her their hand. Later, during the meeting at the former presidential palace, Ahmed al Sara instead of shaking his hand on his chest in a sign of respect, while immediately after extending it, on the contrary, towards Mr. Barreau in a very relaxed handshake. However, sources of the German delegation stated to German media that the new Syrian leader gave his hand to Mrs. Burbok at the end of their meeting. CORVERSE Along with Jean-Noel Barrot “we made it very clear that the issue of women’s rights is not just about women’s rights, but is a measure of how free a society is. It was therefore important for us to make it clear that as the European Union we are ready to do everything we can to ensure that people in Syria can finally live freely again. We have talked about this for a long time and very clearly. And in the end a handshake may not seem as difficult as at the beginning of the conversation,” Burbok said. During the meeting both France and Germany made it clear to the transitional government of Al Jolani that there can be no Syria without the Kurds thus sending a message to Turkey but also to the Syrian leadership. Commenting on the issue, Economy Minister Robert Hambeck (Green) said that “it is important that Annalena Burbok was the first EU Foreign Minister to travel to Syria. With this strong message of European foreign policy one makes clear his support for the country,” Hambeck told BILD and stressed that “if we only met with governments that identify our views, we would be almost alone.”
Al Jolani finally gave Annalena Bourbok his hand at the end of the meeting.
