In a recent post, Akis Skertsos, Minister of Interior, emphasized that the government must be rigorously scrutinized for its actions and inactions regarding railways. He stated, ‘The battles we need to fight are many and on different fronts. We cannot afford to lose any.’ Highlighting the universal and humanitarian nature of the protests concerning Tempi, Skertsos noted that these issues transcend ideologies, parties, and religions. They touch upon the everyday struggles and hopes for a better future for our children. The government’s accountability is crucial, especially in areas like railway management where shortcomings have been exposed. However, Skertsos also pointed out several positive initiatives by the government, such as the #Spitimo program aiding young people, free digital tutoring for families, the completion of the Thessaloniki metro, job creation with improved wages, and policies combating domestic violence and bullying. Despite challenges, Skertsos stressed the importance of perseverance and trust in democratic institutions.
