In the wake of political developments following the railway tragedy in Tempes and historic rallies, Akis Skertsos, Minister of Interior, spoke to Live News. He commented on the resignations of the General Secretary for Political Protection, Vasilis Papageorgiou, and Deputy Minister Christos Triantopoulos during the parliamentary debate on Tempes. “Two years after the tragic accident in Tempes and days after the historic rallies, one thing we must all agree on is that the reason hundreds of thousands of people protested last Friday should unite us,” Skertsos emphasized. The tragedy highlighted issues concerning state security and accountability. Skertsos noted that there should be no shadow over the Tempes incident and acknowledged the public’s doubts two years later. Regarding the EDOASSAM report, he stated it would bring society and justice closer to the truth. Concerning today’s developments in Parliament, Skertsos remarked, “If any indictment is filed against Mr. Karamanlis, let’s discuss it.” He also mentioned the indictment filed by PASOK against Mr. Triantopoulos, stating that all questions need answers. Skertsos criticized the opposition for lacking positive proposals for the country and attempting to criminalize political life. He concluded by stressing the importance of transparency and communication with citizens regarding the demand for truth and justice.
