Airports: 5.4% passenger traffic increased in the eight months of January – August 2024

A 5.4% increase was noted in the 24 management of the Civil Aviation Agency (USA), according to the provisional statistics for January-August 2024. In particular, the total passenger traffic (flights and departures of passengers abroad and domestic) at airports in the first eight months of the year reached 8,184,830 passengers, compared to 7,762,918 passengers in the corresponding period of 2023. According to the CAA data, the state airport of Heraklion “Nikos Kazantzakis” served this August 1,674,908 passengers, i.e. an increase rate of 4.6% compared to last year. At the same time, the most significant passenger traffic increases at the AIA management airports in August 2024 compared to last year were recorded at Kasou Airport by 60.4%, Milos Airport with a 36.3% rise, and Sitia Airport by 29.8%. January-August 2024 statistics for 39 airports: Rise by 9.1% in passenger traffic and 6.8% in aircraft movements. Rise by 9.1% compared to last year also results in the eight-month passenger traffic of the year 2024 for all airports in the country operating commercial flights (39 airports: 24 EPA, 14 FRAPORT GREECE, AIA). Specifically, all passengers in the period January – August 2024 reached 54,769,867, compared to 50,191,061 passengers in the corresponding period of 2023. With regard to the number of aircraft movements (air traffic arrivals and departures of domestic and international aircraft) in the eight months of 2024, for all 39 airports in the country whose air traffic control is mainly carried out by the AIA, there was an increase of 6.8% compared to the corresponding period of January – August 2023.
