Air India Tragedy: The Boeing 787 with a ‘Clean Engine History’ That Killed 270

The president of Air India insists that the Boeing 787 Dreamliner which crashed in Ahmedabad, India, killing 241 of the 242 passengers onboard and an additional 30 people on the ground, had a ‘clean engine history.’ In an interview with the Indian television network ‘Times Now,’ Air India’s chief, Natarajan Chandrasekaran, assured on Wednesday (June 18, 2025) that the company’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner had no issues with its engines. Speaking further, Chandrasekaran mentioned that the right engine was brand new, installed in March 2025, while the left engine had been serviced in 2023. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner was equipped with GEnx engines from GE Aerospace. It crashed on June 12 during its descent into Ahmedabad en route to London’s Gatwick Airport. This tragic incident resulted in over 270 fatalities, including those both aboard and at the crash site.
