A mangled mass of metal and a charred body were left behind after the tragic car accident that occurred Saturday night (05/07/2025) in Agrinio. The 21-year-old, Thanasis, lost his life, while two women, aged 17 and 27, sustained injuries. The crash happened at kilometer 71 of the Antirrio-Ioannina National Highway when the car driven by the 21-year-old—carrying the 17-year-old passenger—veered off the road under circumstances still under investigation and collided head-on with a van driven by a 31-year-old man carrying a 27-year-old woman. After impact, the car struck metal barriers and overturned, sparking a fire that trapped the driver inside. The young man’s father spoke to Mega’s “Exelixeis Tora” program, sharing the heart-wrenching grief. ‘An accident happened and my son burned to death. They didn’t tell me at first—they said he was just hit. That there was a crash,’ the father recounted. The parents, both working at the local hospital, were informed that their son had been brought in as a charred corpse. Scenes of ancient tragedy unfolded at the scene. ‘I work at the hospital and went there. So did his mother—we both work there. But all our colleagues wouldn’t let us do anything. Eventually, they told us he wasn’t in a condition we could even see him.’ The local community of Agrinio is in shock, as Thanasis was beloved by everyone. He was described as a hardworking, dream-filled young man with an exceptional character. Working as a refrigeration technician, he also practiced boxing. ‘He was a young child full of life who just wanted to go out for a drive. Where was the boy supposed to go? A child full of life.’
