Panic struck on Saturday evening (05.07.2025) when a 65-year-old man fired an airgun above the heads of children playing in the courtyard of a school in Agrinio, Greece. According to reports from sinidisi.gr, one of the pellets struck a signboard near the school premises. Locals who witnessed the alarming incident promptly alerted authorities.
Greek police confirmed that the man had targeted a 14-year-old student and injured him. Officers rushed to the scene and proceeded with the suspect’s arrest under the immediate prosecution process. The accused was brought before the Agrinio prosecutor today, reportedly claiming his intended targets were stray animals, not children.
In an official statement, the police reported: ‘The suspect was arrested by members of the local DIAS unit late last night for violating weapons laws. He fired an airgun at a 14-year-old without causing serious injury. Authorities confiscated the airgun equipped with a scope.’
The detained individual is expected to face legal proceedings overseen by the Public Prosecutor of Aitoloakarnania.
