Agrinio: 21-Year-Old Found Burned After Severe Crash on Antirrio-Ioannina National Road

A tragic road accident occurred early Sunday morning (06.07.2025) on the Antirrio-Ioannina National Road in Agrinio, resulting in the death of a 21-year-old man and minor injuries to a woman. The collision happened near the former polytechnic school complex when a passenger car collided head-on with a van. As a result, the car veered off the road and burst into flames.

Emergency crews recovered the body of the young driver, who was found completely burned inside the wreckage. His female passenger managed to escape before the vehicle was engulfed in flames and was rushed to Agrinio General Hospital for treatment.

According to agrinionews.gr, traffic was suspended in both directions following the incident as emergency services, including police, fire department units, and ambulance crews, rushed to the scene. The National Road remained closed temporarily due to the severity of the crash.

Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the deadly accident. Preliminary reports suggest that the two vehicles were traveling in opposite directions before impact, and the car that caught fire was thrown into a ditch after breaking through protective barriers.
