Agios Panteleimonas: Suspect Who Threw Grenade at Café Arrested – Video Shows Moment of Attack

Authorities arrested the suspect who threw a hand grenade at a café in Agios Panteleimonas last August, and identified his accomplice, on Friday (28.11.2025). Following investigations by the Hellenic Police, a 36-year-old Palestinian man was located in Athens, linked to the grenade explosion that occurred just after midnight on August 5th at a hookah café in Agios Panteleimonas, injuring two people. The investigation revealed that the 36-year-old had an accomplice — a 24-year-old Egyptian with a criminal record including weapons possession, drug use, theft, bodily harm, disobedience, and animal abuse — who is now in prison. A search of the 36-year-old, found to be homeless, uncovered a small quantity of crystalline methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Detailed investigation by the Extortion Squad of the Directorate for Crimes Against Life and Property, particularly through video footage analysis, established both suspects’ involvement. The injuries sustained by those inside the café were due to chance. Videos show the moments before the attack, the preparation and throwing of the grenade, and the suspect fleeing the scene. During a body search, police seized a plastic bag containing 0.4 grams of crystal meth, a plastic bong with drug residue, and a mobile phone. Both face charges including attempted murder, explosion, manufacturing and possession of explosives, property damage, and violations of weapons and explosives laws. Both have prior records for similar offenses. The 36-year-old has been transferred to the competent prosecutor. The incident occurred around 00:20 on August 5th at a café on Admítou Street in Athens, owned by a 43-year-old Romanian man.
