Today, Monday (20.1.2025), according to the commemoration of the Euthymian of the Great, Holy Thyrsus and Pureness of Martyrs and Saint Favianos The names that celebrate today, according to the festival, are as follows: AD 377 during the reign of Gratian (375 – 383 AD). Paul’s parents and Dionysia belonged to an official generation. Childless, they were claimed to have a child, who they dedicated to God’s ministry to whom they by divine command gave the name Euthymius, after giving them joy, joy, and exultation by birth. At the age of just three Euthymius lost his father. Then his widowed mother handed him over to the reverential Bishop of Melite Eutroion, who, along with the readers Akakio and Synod later made Bishops Melitoni, trained him well and, after enlisting him in the holy clergy, placed him a master of the monasteries. From Melitini, Osios went, about 406 AD, to Jerusalem and was closed to the cave of St. Theoctist, where he exercised with rigour and emerged monastic rule and boast. And so much he came into virtue that many believed in Christ. His great spiritual gifts quickly highlighted him and his reputation as a Saint spread everywhere. Around him gathered many monks, who elected him their abbot. CORVERSE The Great Euthymian with the holiness of his life contributed to the return to the fatherly piety of many heretics, such as Manichaeans, Nestorians and Hyptians, who rejected the decisions of the Fourth Ecumenical Synod. Everywhere, in Egypt and Syria, the Monophysites prevailed. In Palestine, however, thanks to the presence of Saint Efthymios and his disciples, Orthodoxy prevailed. And when Osius met Queen Eudocia (see August 13), who had been complicated in the networks of the sect of the Monophysites, so convincing and irresistible he spoke to her, that he attributed her to Orthodox doctrines. Loyal Euthymius the Great had received from God the proactive gift and power of miracles. With little bread he managed to fill up four hundred people, who once on the same day visited him in his cell. Many women who were barren, like his own mother, with the prayers of the Saint had a child and lived the joy of childbearing. And like the Prophet Elijah, he prayed to God and opened the gates of heaven and watered the thirsty earth with much rain, which was also refreshed and gave its fruits rich. While it was once the mystery of the Eucharist, the believers saw a beam of light starting from heaven and descending to the Holy One. This heavenly light remained until the Mass ended and declared the inner purity and brilliance of the Saint. Also a sign of his purity and holiness was the fact that he was able to know who was coming to share with a clean or rotten conscience. Osius slept in peace in the year 473 C.E., at the age of 97, during the reign of Lion the Great.
