After the Heatwave, Storms Hit Italy – Woman Killed by Falling Tree

Following a week of intense heat, weather conditions in northern Italy have dramatically changed, giving way to violent storms and hail. This afternoon (06/07/2025), severe thunderstorms hit the broader Milan area and much of northern Italy, bringing heavy rain and hail after days of scorching temperatures. Despite parks being closed from early morning due to weather warnings, a woman was tragically killed after a tree fell on her. In the regions around Milan, Varese, and Como, firefighters have carried out over a hundred operations so far. Authorities remain on high alert in Milan for potential flooding of the Seveso River. Members of the Civil Protection Department and Carabinieri forces assisted elderly citizens and people with disabilities in evacuating flooded ground-floor apartments.
