Afghanistan: Joint Declaration by the EU and 20 other countries on the protection of women

The European Union and 20 other countries have issued a joint statement expressing their deep concern over the situation of women and girls in Afghanistan, calling on “those in power in the country to guarantee their protection”.

Afghan women and girls, like all Afghans, deserve to live in security and dignity. All forms of discrimination and abuse must be prevented.

We in the international community are ready to help them with humanitarian aid and support, to ensure that their voices will be heard, “the statement said.

“We will closely monitor how any future government ensures the rights and freedoms that have become an integral part of the lives of women and girls in Afghanistan over the past twenty years.”

The declaration is co-signed with the EU by the following countries: Albania, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Northern Macedonia, New Zealand, New Zealand, New Zealand, New Zealand, United Kingdom and the United States of America.
