Cooperation between Turkey, Qatar, and the USA for the operation of Kabul Airport

Turkey is cooperating with Qatar and the United States on the operation of Kabul airport and is in talks with the Taliban, the Turkish foreign minister said today, adding that airport security is a key issue.

Ankara has warned the Taliban that it will not participate in the mission for the operation of the airport in the Afghan capital if its units do not take responsibility for its security.

The Turkish foreign minister commented that the Taliban could be responsible for security outside the airport, but added that they would need a more reliable mechanism inside.

A private security company is likely to take over the mission, as long as the Taliban insist there are no foreign forces in Afghanistan, the Turkish minister said.
