The second match between AEK and Partizan in the EHF European Cup men’s handball competition never started due to flares being thrown onto the playing field in Belgrade. Over 2,500 passionate Partizan fans were present for the return game against AEK, but their behavior led to the players of the Union withdrawing. Serbian fans threw flares near the players of both teams just before the match was set to begin, prompting AEK to decide to retreat to the locker rooms to ensure player safety. For the record, AEK had previously triumphed with a score of 27-22 in the first match.
