Olympiacos struck AEK for the second time within days. Following their midweek triumph of 6-0 in Piraeus for the Greek Cup, Mendilibar’s team conquered the Opap Arena once again by defeating AEK 1-0 in what was their penultimate competitive match of the regular Super League season. With a goal from Tsiakalos in the 90th minute, Olympiacos celebrated a double title in Nea Filadelfeia, escaping with five points ahead of second-placed AEK and proving that they are unlikely to lose this year’s championship. Unlike previous derbies that ended in wide victories (4-1, 6-0) for the Piraeus side, this third derby of the season was of exceptionally low quality, with notable phases only coming intermittently, suggesting it would end in a draw without goals. However, Olympiacos found a way to win in the dying moments at Nea Filadelfeia with Tsiakalos’ goal, securing the champion title as they reached 57 points, five more than second-placed AEK. The game saw both teams cautious, with AEK’s coach Matías Almeyda opting for surprises, changing the formation to 3-4-3 and starting three stoppers (Moukountdi, Vida, Mitoglu). Despite a lackluster performance overall, Olympiacos managed to secure the victory through tactical adjustments and timely substitutions.
