AEK Dominates Peristeri 96-67: A Stormy Performance Secures 3rd Place in GBL

AEK showcased their dominance from start to finish against Peristeri, winning comfortably with a score of 96-67. This victory marks another significant step towards securing the third position in the regular season of the Greek Basket League (GBL). In an impressive display at the ‘Sunel Arena,’ AEK thrilled their fans during the 20th competitive game of the GBL season. The team maintained shooting accuracy above 50% for both two-pointers (24/44) and three-pointers (15/29), while excelling on both ends of the court with 40-32 rebounds and 46-32 points in the paint. Dragan Sakota’s players set the tone early, leading 7-2 initially. Despite Peristeri leveling at 7-7, AEK responded with a 7-0 run to lead 14-7 halfway through the first quarter. With Raikouan Gray and Si Jae Brice heating up, AEK closed the first period ahead by seven points (23-16). George Papas briefly reduced the deficit to 28-21, but AEK went on an incredible 15-0 run, extending their lead to 22 points (43-21). Despite Peristeri’s efforts, they were plagued by numerous turnovers (15 by the middle of the third quarter) and trailed significantly by the end of the third period (74-48). A dunk by Gaëtan Sordilliez extended AEK’s lead to 34 points early in the fourth quarter (84-50). Although Peristeri managed to cut the deficit to 27 points late in the game, AEK ultimately triumphed 96-67. With this win, AEK (12-8) secured their seventh victory in eight games across Greece and Europe, boosting morale ahead of their Tuesday matchup against Verviers-Poulainville in the Basketball Champions League. Meanwhile, Peristeri (7-13) suffered their fifth consecutive loss and risks falling out of playoff contention depending on tomorrow’s results.
