Georgiadis: No Samaras Party, SYRIZA Only Wants Taxes

Adonis Georgiadis: ‘No Samaras Party — Syriza Only Dreams of Seizing Others’ Money’

Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis expressed skepticism that former Prime Minister Antonis Samaras will launch a new political party. Speaking to reporters, he dismissed speculation about a ‘Samaras party’ as unfounded, saying: ‘There is no Samaras party. If one emerges, ask me then. I’m among those who don’t believe it will happen. I believe in the concept of a political alignment — and Antonis Samaras was one of Greece’s strongest prime ministers. I’m no more New Democracy than Samaras himself.’

Elections Expected in 2027

Georgiadis reaffirmed the government’s expectation that the next general elections will be held in 2027, barring any major unforeseen developments. ‘Unless something highly unexpected occurs, there will be no elections in 2026,’ he stated.

ND’s Electoral Prospects

On the possibility of New Democracy securing an outright majority, Georgiadis said it remains statistically feasible — pointing to current polling data that mirrors the party’s strong performance ahead of the 2023 elections. ‘Whether we win with a majority or not will be decided by the ultimate boss: the people,’ he added.

Criticism of SYRIZA and ELAS

Referring to the left-wing coalition party SYRIZA (officially known as the Coalition of the Radical Left – Progressive Alliance), Georgiadis urged media outlets to give its members as much airtime as possible — arguing that their repeated focus on new taxes reveals their core agenda. ‘For the past ten days, they’ve spoken only about raising taxes — all day, every day. The only thing they dream of is seizing other people’s money. Genuine, mainstream left-wingers,’ he said, using irony to underscore his criticism.

He also noted his view that PASOK is heading toward electoral collapse, though he did not elaborate further on that assessment.
