The first experimental in-home drug delivery service started today, Sunday (June 15, 2025), with the official launch scheduled for tomorrow, Monday. Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis shared the story of an 85-year-old woman from Ano Liosia who contracted COVID-19 and was prescribed Paxlovid. Since it was Saturday and no EOPYY pharmacy was open, she risked not receiving her medication. As Georgiadis stated, “She was alone, so I gave the order – as a test – to conduct the first free in-home drug delivery by EOPYY in Ano Liosia!” According to the minister, this is a major reform. From now on, anyone in need can submit their request via the numbers: 18181 or 2108110500. A specific case highlighted by Georgiadis involved an 85-year-old woman who contacted them after contracting COVID-19 and being advised by her doctor to take Paxlovid immediately. With no EOPYY pharmacy open on Saturday, she would have had to go to a hospital to receive the medication. Being alone, she sought their help. The minister issued an order, initiating the home delivery service as a test. Thus, the first free in-home drug delivery by EOPYY took place in Ano Liosia. This reform aims to improve Greece’s healthcare system, ensuring citizens receive necessary medications without hassle, cost, or delays. The official service will start on June 16, covering approximately 139,000 insured individuals receiving high-cost drugs. Deliveries are free within 24–48 hours, including refrigerated medications. Requests can be made through the EOPYY platform or by phone, requiring AMKA, AFM, electronic prescription, and digital approval. Excluded are compounds transported via IFET or without EU circulation approval. The president of EOPYY, Theano Karpodini, emphasized that this is the first time an insurance organization in Europe provides such a service.
