New measures for electronic prescription are expected to be announced by Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis due to a new cycle of fraudulent prescriptions uncovered by EL.AS, involving doctors and pharmacists. In a radio interview with Alpha 98.9, the minister revealed that the illegal network has been dismantled. The minister pre-announced enhanced controls through artificial intelligence. A competition is currently underway for the procurement of an AI system to be integrated into the electronic prescription process. This new tool will automatically scan AMKA numbers, medications, and prescription motives, identifying suspicious activities within seconds. “I have in the works a tender for the purchase of an AI system to be applied to the electronic prescription system,” he specifically mentioned. The system will investigate AMKAs one by one, medications, and cases of fraud. Until now, checks were conducted using outdated digital means, leaving gaps for fraud. With the upgrade, Georgiadis assures all security gaps will be closed. He also warned citizens about the dangers of false prescriptions entering their personal medical records, which could have serious future consequences. “When you receive a fake prescription, it gets stored and follows your history,” he emphasized, highlighting the need to fortify the system against corruption.
