Late Friday evening (21/03/2025), Health Minister Adonis Georgiades visited the General State Hospital of Nikaea following a fire incident. He praised the Fire Service for their immediate intervention and extinguishing the fire. Georgiades also mentioned that the hospital would return to full operation shortly. In a statement, he explained that the fire occurred in an empty corridor on level -2 where some boxes containing old documents had been stored. The cause of the fire remains unknown, and they are awaiting the conclusion of the Fire Service investigation. No patients were endangered, and as a precautionary measure, a space in the TEP was evacuated to avoid smoke exposure. Due to the radiology department’s temporary inoperability, new emergencies are being directed to other hospitals according to a contingency plan. Patients already requiring admission proceeded with their process normally, ensuring the hospital will resume full functionality promptly.
