A pessimistic comment was made by the Minister of Health referring to the rapid developments in the after “deduction” of Stephen Kasselakis from the party presidency. Speaking to ERT on Sunday morning (15.09. 24) including the stormy events in Syriza, Adonis Georgiadis said that “the party has begun to feel sorry for itself.” As the minister said, the lack of opposition creates a political anomaly and harms democracy. He commented that he has no preference for SYRIZA’s internal party procedures, but said the situation is out of imagination. Regarding the National Health System (SY), he admitted that there are deficiencies in staff, however he said measures have been taken to deal with them, such as increasing incentives for doctors serving on barren lines. He argued that the medical staff are more than ever and assured that the NSA is not falling apart, describing the opposite view as false. Regarding the increases in doctors, he stressed that these would be within the country’s budgetary capabilities. “The incentives for barren areas for Greek data are very large. It’s 7,200 euros a year for critical specialties,” he said while commenting on criticisms of doctors’ salaries he wondered: “Are there many civil servants who get 4,500 mixed? It is challenging for people who hear in Greece that 4,500 are few” Mr Georgiadis also referred to his personal vision of free afternoon surgeries, which are a bet for him. He pledged that by 2025 25,000 surgeries would be performed, with the aim of reducing waiting times. Finally, he noted that government initiatives are based on budgetary possibilities, warning that improvements in the economy do not mean unlimited spending opportunities.
