Adonis Georgiadas, former Greek Minister of Development and Investments, shared a TikTok video posted by a British woman living in Greece who praised the country’s healthcare system—particularly its paediatric care—in comparison with the UK’s National Health Service (NHS).

A Real-Time View of the Greek Healthcare System

In his repost, Georgiadas described the clip as a genuine reflection of how the National Healthcare System (ESY) functions in practice. He encouraged citizens to watch the testimony and compare it with healthcare experiences abroad.

Swift Paediatric Care on a Saturday

The woman, named Chelsea, recounted how her eldest son fell ill over a four-day period and worsened dramatically on a Saturday. Concerned, she contacted their private paediatrician—even though it was the weekend. To her relief, he agreed to see them immediately.

That evening, the family visited the doctor, who conducted a full physical examination—including checks of the ears, heart, and a rapid strep A test, which came back positive. The child was prescribed antibiotics, oral rehydration sachets for a concurrent stomach upset, and prophylactic medication for his younger brother, given the highly contagious nature of the infection.

By the end of the visit, they were back home with all necessary treatments. Chelsea emphasized how reassuring it was to have prompt access to medical care—especially during off-hours—and noted the total cost was just €50: €40 for the consultation and under €10 for prescriptions and medications.

Contrasting Systems

While affirming her appreciation for the NHS in cases of serious illness, Chelsea said Greece outperforms the UK in everyday paediatric needs—offering faster appointments, more flexible availability, and greater peace of mind for parents.

Georgiadas captioned the repost: “Watch it simply to appreciate how things truly are here—compared to abroad.”
