According to Health Minister Adonis Georgiadas — who shared the claim in a post on X (formerly Twitter) — a 57-year-old candidate of the political party Plous Eleftherias (Wealth of Freedom) set fire to dry grass in Corinthia. Georgiadas wrote that the woman, while walking her dog, reportedly stopped abruptly, lit a match, and ignited dry vegetation next to a forest.

Allegations and Political Context

In his post, Georgiadas — also deputy leader of New Democracy (ND) — criticized the party’s leadership and rhetoric, suggesting the incident reflects broader concerns about toxicity in public discourse. He speculated that the candidate might later insult government officials as “murderers” or “junta members,” following what he described as the party leader’s inflammatory language. He added: “This is genuine mental illness. And this is where daily toxicity, constant insults, and the ongoing undermining of our democracy lead.”

The post, published on June 30, 2026, concluded with Georgiadas stating: “We will win them again — and keep Greece on the path of reason.”
