Greek actress Jenny Zacharopoulou has died at the age of 85. She passed away in the early hours of Thursday at the hospital where she had been receiving care in recent days.
A Stalwart of Greek Cinema
Born in 1941, Zacharopoulou trained at the Katseli Drama School and later toured globally for three years with Dimitris Rontiris’ theatre company, performing classical repertoire. Her breakthrough came through collaborations with legendary actress Aliki Vougiouklaki and director Dimitris Papamichael—roles that brought her widespread recognition across Greece.
She went on to work with nearly all of Greece’s leading comedic actors and appeared in landmark television series such as Youggerman, Pantheoi, Our Neighborhood, and The Guards of Achaea.
