Inspectors from the Special Unit for Economic Crimes (DEOS) of the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) seized over two tons of unsafe dairy products after discovering they had been illegally transported from Bulgaria in a non-refrigerated truck.
Discovery on the Makaza–Komotini Road
The case came to light during a routine inspection of a small foreign-registered truck on the Makaza–Komotini road. Inspectors found that the vehicle was carrying more than two tons of Bulgarian-origin dairy products without the mandatory refrigerated compartment required by law.
Health Risks and Overloading Violations
Further checks revealed the truck was also overloaded by 1,500 kilograms. With support from veterinary inspectors of the Regional Veterinary Service of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, authorities determined the products posed a serious risk to public health due to the complete absence of temperature control during transport.
Confiscation, Destruction, and Penalties
All seized products were confiscated and destroyed. Administrative penalties were imposed under the current framework of the Hellenic Food Authority (EFET), covering both the overload violation and the illegal transportation of unfit foodstuffs.
