80 new air traffic controllers hired via ASEPA competition

The Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Christos Dimas, has signed the hiring of the first 80 air traffic controllers for the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA), out of the 97 planned for 2025 as part of efforts to alleviate pressure at Greek airports. The new recruits are successful candidates from the ASEPA competition (announcement 2G/2024), following completion of their appointment documentation review. Their swearing-in will take place in the coming days, launching their training amid ongoing airport challenges. An additional 72 controllers are expected to be hired from the same pool in 2026. Furthermore, the recruitment of 43 new electronic ATSEP specialists is nearing completion, aiming for finalization by 2025. For 2026, plans include hiring 28 flight information officers (AFISO) for regional airports and an additional 44 ATSEP electronics staff. The government emphasizes its commitment to strengthening aviation services through specialized staffing and administrative reform, including the transformation of HCAA into a legal entity under public law, currently in consultation. This initiative aligns with the Ministry’s action plan in cooperation with European agencies to upgrade Greece’s aviation sector.
