The mercury is soaring in Greece, with temperatures expected to reach nearly 37 degrees Celsius by Thursday, June 5, 2025. This upward trend will continue until Monday, June 9, coinciding with Pentecost. These high temperatures are perfect for beachgoers, as sea temperatures are also elevated. Meteorologist Kostas Lagouvardos noted that Thursday marked the first day of 2025 where temperatures exceeded 35 degrees Celsius. The regions experiencing the highest temperatures include Cranidi at 36.6°C, Karditsa and Harokopio-Kallithea both at 36.1°C, Kalambaka at 36°C, and Agioi Theodoroi Corinthias at 35.9°C. Despite the heat, instability was observed in the northwest, with over 4,600 electrical discharges (lightning strikes) recorded. Sea surface temperatures across Greek waters range between 20-22°C, with the Ionian and Aegean seas being warmer than usual by 2-3°C. According to the National Meteorological Service, Friday, June 6, will remain hot with scattered showers and sporadic thunderstorms in Macedonia. Winds will blow up to 6 Beaufort in the Aegean. Similar conditions are forecasted for the rest of the weekend, maintaining summer-like temperatures.
