After several weeks of bravely fighting for her life, a 62-year-old woman has tragically passed away following a wrong blood transfusion at Tzaneio General Hospital in Piraeus. The incident occurred when a nurse administered the incorrect blood type due to miscommunication and lack of proper identification protocols. As a result, she suffered severe brain damage and remained in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for the past month before being declared brain dead on Wednesday (02.07.2025). In a noble gesture, her family decided to donate her organs through the National Transplant Organization, offering hope to others in need. Investigations revealed eight critical failures, including broken medical equipment, improper labeling of patients, and procedural violations during blood transfusions.
