6.9 Magnitude Earthquake in Philippines: Drivers Flee Vehicles on Shaking Bridge – Police Confirm 5 Dead

A 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck the central Philippines on Tuesday at 21:59 local time, killing at least five people, police from San Remigio confirmed late Tuesday (30.09.2025). The identities of the victims have not yet been released. The quake hit north of Cebu Island, collapsing a commercial building and a school in Bantayan town. Damage was also reported on local roads, along with power outages. Dramatic videos on social media show motorcycle and car drivers on a bridge violently swaying during the tremor, with many abandoning their vehicles. Other footage captures people hugging each other in panic on city streets. CCTV footage from Cebu shows buildings shaking and crowds fleeing in chaos. The quake’s epicenter was located about 11 kilometers from Calape, Bohol province, home to around 33,000 residents. Seismologists warned of a possible ‘slight sea level rise’ and urged residents in Leyte, Cebu, and Biliran to move away from coastal areas. However, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center quickly confirmed there was no tsunami threat.
