Almost daily, migrants are reaching Greece from the northern shores of Africa, aided by favorable weather conditions. On Saturday (June 7, 2025), in a coordinated search and rescue operation, the Harbor Authority located and rescued 50 migrants aboard a wooden boat south of Gavdos. Additionally, yesterday (June 6, 2025), a Frontex team intercepted 31 foreigners (28 men, 2 women, and 1 minor) in the same area, who were then transferred to the harbor of Agia Galini. One woman was transported by ambulance to the General Hospital of Rethymno for treatment, while another woman and a minor girl were taken to the Venizelio General Hospital in Heraklion due to unavailability. Furthermore, yesterday, members of the Gavdos harbor police discovered 44 foreigners (41 men, 1 woman, and 2 minors) near the rocky area between ‘Kefali’ cape and ‘Potamos’ beach on Gavdos. Later, the same officers found 38 more foreigners on ‘Trypeti’ beach, who were initially moved to a temporary shelter organized by the Municipality of Gavdos before being transferred by a Frontex vessel to the harbor of Agia Galini.
