45-Year-Old Worker Dies in Messinia After Being Buried Under Debris

A fatal workplace accident occurred in the Ari area of Messinia just before 3:30 PM on Friday, February 6, 2026. According to messinialive, the 45-year-old Albanian worker—a compressor operator employed by a contractor—was excavating for a stormwater network when the ground suddenly collapsed beneath him. He fell into the trench and was buried under debris. Colleagues rushed to assist immediately, and an EKAB ambulance arrived shortly after, transporting the unconscious man to Kalamata General Hospital. Medical staff performed CPR for 30 minutes, but he could not be revived. He sustained severe chest and rib injuries and had already succumbed at the scene.
