A moderate earthquake measuring 4.0 on the Richter scale occurred in the Marmara Sea, with its epicenter off the coast of Buyukcekmece, southwest of Constantinople. The quake was recorded at 11:36 PM local time on Tuesday (May 20, 2025), according to Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD). The hypocentral depth was measured at 8.16 kilometers. The tremor was felt in several areas of Constantinople. The Kandilli Observatory reported the intensity of the earthquake at 4.2. The epicenter is located east of the one from the major 6.2 magnitude earthquake that struck offshore Silivri on April 23rd.
