Kilmar Abrego Garcia, 30, faces charges for human trafficking, weapons, and drugs. Initially deported ‘by mistake’ to El Salvador under the Trump administration, he has now been returned to the US to stand trial. US Attorney General Pam Bondi announced that President of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, agreed to send Abrego Garcia back following a US warrant. The prosecution took place in a federal court in Tennessee on May 21, more than two months after his deportation. During a meeting at the White House between Bukele and former President Donald Trump, it was acknowledged that the issue couldn’t be resolved without extradition. According to Bondi, Garcia played a significant role in an alien smuggling network over the past nine years. His lawyer, Andrew Rosman, emphasized the importance of ensuring a fair trial. The indictment reveals that Garcia worked with at least five others to bring illegal immigrants into the US and transport them across the country, often picking them up from Houston. Additionally, he is accused of illegally transporting weapons and drugs purchased in Texas and sold in Maryland, sometimes accompanied by MS-13 gang members.
