28 January: Feast of St. Ephrem the Syrian

East and born in the city Νίσιβη of Mesopotamia, probably the 308 m.X. or and earlier. Flourished under Constantine the Great (324 – 337 ad.X.), Julian of Παραβάτου (361 – 363 m.X.) and of the successors of this.
From the early age he was taught the faith and virtue of the Bishop of the birthplace of James (309 – 364 m.X.), who ordained him deacon, but the Saint refused to take a bigger office. Followed a lot of the early monastic life, and with the lighting of the Paraclete wrote too many writings of spiritual and moral construction.
For this, and is admired for the number and beauty of his works. Knowledgeable accurate of all the dogmatic issues, he knew how to combat the heresies, and to defend with great clarity Orthodoxy. It was he who defeated in debate the heretic Απολλινάριο and led many heretics to return to the patristic piety.
When, by the treaty of the year 363 m.G., signed by the successor of Julian the Παραβάτου, Ιοβιανός (363 – 364 m.X.), the Nisibis was surrendered to the Persians, St. Ephrem left his country and came to Edessa, where he led the ascetic life in a nearby term. In the year 370 m.X. visited the Great Kingdom in Caesarea of Cappadocia, and a little later the Fathers and Ascetics of Egypt.
The Saint Ephraim slept in peace in the year 373 m.X. and the Mustering of the ετελείτο the Martyrdom of St. Ακυλίνας, in the area called filoxenos, close to the market.
