Tensions are escalating between the Greek Seamen’s Union (PENEN) and shipowners. PENEN announced a new 24-hour strike starting Thursday night (June 19, 2025), affecting Adriatic routes. The union warns of extending the strike to all coastal shipping if no substantial response is received from shipowners and the government. Following a meeting in Patras port, members decided on a 24-hour strike beginning Friday morning (June 20, 2025) at 6 AM and ending Saturday at 6 AM. ‘The crew continues its unwavering strike aboard Adriatic ships, demanding solutions to their just demands,’ stated PENEN. After a solidarity rally with workers and supporters, all data was reviewed during discussions, leading unanimously to continuing the strike. PENEN also noted that security personnel will adhere to maritime regulations during the strike.
