24-Hour General Strike in Greece: How Public Transport Will Operate on April 9

in

The country is experiencing a 24-hour general strike today, Wednesday (April 9, 2025), as workers participate in the strike called by GSEE and ADEDY. Public transport services will be disrupted due to work stoppages. The General Confederation of Greek Workers (GSEE) and ADEDY have announced a 24-hour general strike for today, involving federations, unions, and organizations from both the private and public sectors. Among their demands are wage increases, Collective Labor Agreements, reinstatement of the 13th and 14th salaries in the public sector, and measures to address inflation and the housing crisis. Demonstrations are scheduled across the country, including central rallies in Athens and Thessaloniki. Public transportation will operate with limited schedules. The metro, tram, and buses will run between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Intercity trains and suburban rail services will not operate throughout the day. Taxis may still operate, though drivers are encouraged to participate in protests. Ferry services are suspended nationwide, and air traffic controllers’ participation means only essential flights will take off.
