Friday, 24 July 2026 marked the official close of the on-time filing period for income tax returns for the 2025 tax year, as set by Greece’s Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE).
Timely Launch, Smooth Execution
For the second consecutive year, AADE’s digital platforms opened on schedule — on 13 March 2026 for legal entities and 16 March 2026 for individuals — in line with statutory deadlines. The combination of sufficient filing time and early preparation across all stakeholders contributed significantly to another smooth and orderly process.
Individual Taxpayers
A total of 6,737,763 individual income tax returns were filed on time — an increase of 31,672 compared to 2025. These returns cover 8,954,982 individuals, up from 8,914,700 last year.
On average, 51,433 returns were submitted daily — slightly lower than last year’s 52,803, reflecting a more evenly distributed and less congested filing pattern.
By the deadline, 603,106 amended returns had been submitted by 563,765 taxpayers. Meanwhile, 1,357,222 returns were pre-filled, allowing taxpayers to simply review and confirm their data. Of these, 889,036 were submitted automatically; only 260,431 required manual amendments.
Legal Entities
There were 385,515 timely corporate tax returns filed — up from 362,682 in 2025, representing an increase of nearly 23,000. The average daily filing rate stood at 2,877, consistent with last year despite the higher overall volume.
Challenges to Presumed Income Evidence
Among the 742,344 sole proprietorships subject to taxation based on objective criteria (‘tekmiria’), only 1,645 individuals indicated intent to challenge their presumed income assessment — down 37% from 2,603 in the 2024 tax year.
Official Statement
AADE Director Giorgos Pitsilis commented: “This year’s tax filing period closes with new records for on-time submissions — both for individuals and legal entities. On behalf of everyone at AADE, we thank citizens who fulfilled this important obligation promptly, as well as accountants and tax consultants who responded with professionalism and responsibility. We also thank public and private sector bodies that transmitted necessary data in time for pre-filling. Finally, I extend my gratitude to AADE staff, whose intensive work ensured the timely launch and seamless operation of the entire process.”
