According to reliable sources from newsit.gr, a new monthly subsidy of 200 euros is set to be introduced for teachers, nurses, coastguards, and police officers serving in island and remote mountainous regions. The initiative, announced on July 1, 2025, will be managed by the Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family.
This rental support aims to assist public servants who work outside their official residence areas—especially those stationed in islands, mountainous or disadvantaged zones, as well as individuals commuting long distances daily.
The same sources indicate that approximately 2,500 to 3,000 public employees across these categories will benefit from this measure, which will run for four years, from 2026 to 2029.
A total of 200 million euros will be allocated for this program, sourced from European Union funds, marking a significant step toward supporting essential workers in underserved regions.
