In just one day of operation, 170,000 citizens downloaded their personal identification number by 8 a.m. on June 4, 2025, as announced by the Minister of Digital Transformation, Dimitris Papastergiou, while speaking in Chania about the new personal ID number initiative. This marks a significant change and innovation in public administration. Until now, citizens had four different identification numbers. With the new personal ID number, it is ensured that accurate and verified information is maintained across all state registers for each citizen, with full respect and protection of personal data. The personal ID number, established by law 4727/20, consists of three alphanumeric characters followed by the Tax Identification Number (TIN) of the citizen. It will be included in identity cards applied for from June 3 onward and integrated into the digital identity in the Gov.gr Wallet by the end of June. Additionally, citizens can access their personal ID number anytime through the myinfo.gov.gr platform.
