12+ Workers Killed in Russian Drone Strike on Ukrainian Mine Bus

A Russian drone attack struck a bus carrying mine workers from a DTEK facility in Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region on Sunday, February 1, 2025. The strike killed at least 12 people and injured seven others near the town of Ternivka, approximately 70 km from the front lines. DTEK, Ukraine’s largest private energy provider, confirmed its employees were targeted while returning from a shift. The company reported 15 fatalities and 7 injuries—a toll not yet independently verified by Ukrainian authorities. Energy Minister Denys Smihal condemned the assault as a ‘cynical and targeted attack’ on energy sector workers. The incident occurred hours after President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced a second round of US-mediated trilateral talks between Ukraine and Russia scheduled for next week. Earlier the same day, Russian strikes also wounded at least nine people in Zaporizhzhia, hitting a maternity hospital and residential building.
